Some Great Reads...

The modern internet definitely doesn't help when it comes to learning stuff. Half of the content is monetised while the other half is incorrect. Sometimes it's easier to read a book.

Here are my top 5 finance books as features in Investing for Beginners.

The Intelligent Investor Book Cover

1) The Intelligent Investor

The Intelligent Investor is a timeless work on the principles of value investing, by Benjamin Graham, the tutor of Warren Buffet. While Buffett later adapted many of Graham's teachings, he is still regarded as the father of value investing principles, and was one of my first reads when I was learning how to sensibly invest. You can pick up a copy here

The Ascent of Money Book Cover

2) The Ascent of Money

The Ascent of Money was the third ever finance book I read. Niall Ferguson discusses finances from the Babylonian era to modern America & Britain, covering everything in between. An essential read for those wishing to learn from the past, understand its trends and avoid its mistakes. Available here

The Ivy Portfolio Book Cover

3) The Ivy Portfolio

The Ivy Portfolio gives a fantastic insight into how the Ivy League Colleges, and indeed any Universities with a respectable endowment fund, are able to spend so much money per student capita. It showcases some interesting investment strategies and how a lay-investor can apply them to their own portfolio. This book is available here

The Financial Times Investment Guide Book Cover

4) The FT Guide to Investing

The FT Guide to Investing was the first finance book I ever read. Glen Arnold distills all the major investing concepts in a way that is sufficiently detailed for a beginner, but concise enough to be used as a handbook. A cover to cover read of this is a great way to spend a few Sunday afternoons. You can find the paperback here

Taxtopia Book Cover

5) The Rebel Accountant: Taxtopia

Taxtopia has more comedic than educational value. The nameless Rebel Accountant reveals some interesting, and in some cases unbelievable, stories from a career in Tax Advisory. It tells stories of the ultra-wealthy, their various tax avoidance schemes, and in some places, how they could work for you too. You can get a copy here.
